... to our network of more than 30,000 successful business women! Business and Professional
Women/USA (BPW/USA), established in 1919, is a national non-profit, non-partisan
organization, which advances and promotes the interests and concerns of business and
professional women. BPW/USA is the voice of workingwomen and the oldest organization in
America dedicated to the promotion and interests of workingwomen. A number of
congresswomen, business leaders and other national leaders are BPW members. BPW/USA
fosters the success of workingwomen by providing career advancement resources, worklife
strategies and personal and professional connections.

One of the most valuable benefits of membership is the opportunity to meet and network with
other professional women at Signature Events, Conferences and Programs sponsored by
BPW/USA and the BPW Foundation. Whether you're looking to exchange ideas, build
business leads, find peers in your field or learn how to lobby, BPW/USA personal and
professional connections have proven invaluable to BPW members.

Business and Professional Women of Virginia (BPW/VA) is one of the state organizations of
BPW/USA. With eighteen Local Organizations that span the state, BPW/VA is representative
of Virginia's best and brightest.

Our Mission
Workingwomen Succeeding Together! By joining BPW/VA, part of a national organization that
demonstrates the true strength and diversity of America's female workforce, you will be among
women of diverse ages, races, religions, political persuasions and socioeconomic backgrounds.
BPW members come from all levels of the workforce and virtually every occupation. Yet all
share a common purpose: working together - and with other major institutions in our society -
for economic security and professional development.

Our Goal
BPW's goal is to achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education
and information.

Our History
Founded more than 80 years ago, BPW/USA was the first women's organization to formally
endorse the Equal Right's Amendment in 1937, and we have led the drive for ratification ever
since. BPW/USA has been a leader in passing legislation of our time, from the Civil Rights Act
of 1964 and the Equal Pay Act, to Title IX and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. BPW/USA
knows the issues that concern workingwomen and brings those issues to policy makers in
Washington, in state capitols, and in city halls across the country. BPW/VA, like BPW/USA,
was founded in 1919 and has been a leader on the legislative front in Richmond and in every
county of the Commonwealth.
