2017 Business of the Year

Geri’s Sister To Sister Boutique

Cheri Dellinger is the owner and operator of Geri’s Sister-to-Sister Boutique in downtown Bedford, named after her daughter.  Cheri acquired her business 9 years ago, starting downstairs with Ginger Bell and later moving upstairs where she has been for the past 7 years.  Not only is this a place where you find new and gently used clothes, shoes, pocketbooks and household items but a sanctuary for those needing a hug, a shoulder to cry on and lots and lots of prayers.  Cheri not only sells, but donates to anyone in need and is a big supporter of Domestic Violence.  Cheri, you are a shining example of how women can help other women right here in small town Bedford, Virginia.  We are proud of what you’ve done and hope you have a fantastic upcoming new year!

2016 Woman of Achievement

Dr. Sharon Dodson

Dr. Sharon Dodson was presented with the award of 2016 Woman of Achievement this fall.  Dr. Dodson is a retired educator and co-founder of Teach Them All, a Bedford-based non-profit dedicated to elevating literacy and learning potential in children with educational challenges through world-wide capacity building projects.  The project in Lima, Peru inspired the creation of the nonprofit. This project serves Deaf children through Enseñas Perú. This programs supplements the teaching of reading and writing in Spanish that students receive in public schools. The program is designed on the concepts and practices of bilingual education for the Deaf.  The newest Teach Them All project is a partnership with the public library in Independence, Belize, which has a Summer Enrichment Program each July.  In a hands-on way children are taught material which will prepare them for success when they return to school in the fall.
