Scholarships Offered by the Virginia BPW
Nettie Tucker Yowell Scholarship: Awarded to Virginia high school seniors who have been accepted at a Virginia college or university. The number of scholarships awarded annually is based on available funds, but at least one scholarship will be awarded each year. The minimum amount awarded is $250. Both women and men are eligible to apply. As part of the application process, each applicant must explain how receipt of the scholarship will help further the goals and objectives of BPW. Buena M. Chesshir Memorial Women's Educational Scholarship: The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to increase the skills of mature women employed or seeking employment; to increase the pool of women qualified for higher level positions; and to help women achieve economic self-sufficiency by supporting educational efforts that are personally and financially rewarding. Scholarships range from $100 to $1,000 for one year, and may be used for tuition, fees, books, transportation, living expenses, and dependent care. Applicants must be women 25 year of age or older, U.S. citizens, residents of Virginia, and accepted into an accredited program or course of study at a Virginia institution. Women in Science and Technology Scholarship: This scholarship provides financial assistance to juniors and seniors studying toward baccalaureate degrees in mathematics, or students in advanced degrees in mathematics or actuarial science. Karen B. Lewis Career Education Scholarship: This scholarship provides financial assistance to girls and women pursuing post-secondary job-oriented career education, offering training in business, trade, and industrial occupations (this excludes education leading towards bachelor's or advanced degrees).
